MindBody Health for Chronic Pain

MindBody health for chronic pain emphasizes the connection between mind and body.  It seeks to recognize the power of the mind to influence the state of the physical body.  MindBody approaches are gaining acceptance and finding scientific backing in more recent studies.

As a culture, we now generally accept that stress can have significant negative impacts on our health. Extending these concepts further, MindBody approaches strive to improve numerous chronic pain symptoms for which no physical cause has been found.  Individuals who experience chronic fatigue, pain, digestive issues, brain fog, migraines, etc. may find hope in MindBody approaches to their health.  (Note that many chronic pain conditions may be rooted in biological and/or structural issues within the body – I encourage people to work closely with their doctors to seek out underlying physical causes and treatment.)

Treatment using a MindBody approach incorporates elements of other therapeutic approaches and may include cognitive behavioural techniques, pain reprocessing therapy (PRT), and emotional awareness and expression therapy (EAET).

For those with chronic pain conditions rooted in biological and/or structural origins, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and/or Cognitive Behaviour Therapy may offer more helpful approaches to counselling.

True silence is the rest of the mind, and is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.
